Halloween (2013)

Halloween this year was a blast.  More time was spent visiting friends and passing out candy than trick-or-treating, but all three of us had a super time.  A few days before Halloween we placed out our decorations.  During the holidays, especially Halloween, we always like to make the front area look fun.  The Mr. placed the giant, paper stuffed spider on top of the roof, and I hung a festive wreath on the door, but we didn't stop there.

This wreath was the same one that I made following Little Miss Momma's tutorial a few months back here.  Since I loved it so much I decided I was going to keep it on the door even for Halloween, but thankfully I came across a way to dress it up thanks to Lil Luna's Halloween Wreath Roundup.  Of course, I put my own twist on it, but still, it turned out wonderfully!

The giant spider going up on the roof.  Now this was a comical moment seeing as the wind was blowing and not helping one bit.  I will admit, I was a bit tickled watching The Mr. wrestle with the huge thing.

The night of Halloween all of the decorations came together and looked "spooky.".  We got about 380 trick-or-treaters throughout the night, but that's actually less that the years before. The Bean went as a brown barn owl this year and he looked marvelous!

We went through about eight, large bags of candy, and two bags of Halloween party favors!

The Bean always gets Halloween surprises too! (Thanks Grandma, Uncle Will, and Aunt Kayla!)

We always decorate the inside of the house too, just for ourselves.  These fun decorations come from the Red Snail Classroom on a day we had a little Art appreciation. You can follow along with what our classroom does by visiting our Red Snail blog here.

Homemade quick pizza

Every Friday night in our house, we go for pizza. We have created so many different varieties of pizza in our home kitchen that it almost seems to come second nature to all of us to throw together something on a pie fast.  Here is our version of a 10 minute homemade pizza.

What you'll need:

• Pizza dough:  You can either make this from scratch or use one of the many varieties out on the market now days.  Of course, we have tried both ways and we prefer the Mama Mary's variety in the Thin & Crispy.  The crust comes out in perfect texture every time.

• Pizza sauce:  We really like to doctor any type of pizza sauce we get, so we go with a varieties that doesn't have too much garlic with and just enough of the other spices to make it delicious.

• Toppings:  We go with the old standbys of pepperonis and black olives (smashed by hand), as well as cheese.

We also incorporate the cheese flavoring from BRAGG Nutritional Yeast Seasoning.  We are trying slowly to eat more clean, and these "secret" ingredients allow us to slowly introduce our bodies to new tastes and flavors that are healthy for our systems.

We cover the entire pizza and make it a family effort.  Everyone gets to add something to the pizza before it's cooked.

Once it's covered in the toppings, it cooks for eight minutes at 375 degrees. (adjust this temperature and time depending on your oven.)

Once it's done cooking, remove it from the oven and slice up.

Five on Friday: Spark of Loves this Week

It's Friday and that means another Five on Friday linkup over at Carolina Charm, as well as my Spark of Loves this Week.  Here are my Five on Friday loves.

1. The Fall Season.

With its bright reds, yellows, and oranges.  Along with some browns and tans.  It's such a great time of year and it's always the time of year where we go through our house and get rid of unnecessary and donate them too.

2.  This Cup of Hot Chocolate.

Because we've had rain and cold since Halloween here in Oregon, and this cup of hot cocoa was a nice treat at 6:00 a.m. getting the classroom ready for the day.

3.  This Greek Yogurt and Grape Nuts Treat.

I am loving The Greek Gods Honey Strawberry Greek Yogurt right now.  It has to be the best flavored yogurt, regular or Greek-Style out there.  Adding a small handful of Grape Nuts on top is the perfect late night snack without a ton of calories too!

4.  This Moon.

Because it was perfect timing for our homeschooling study of the moon and its many phases, and it stuck around for Halloween too!

5.  This Mum.

Because it was so pretty and made my Halloween porch look amazing!

Our pumpkin patch visit to Bose Family Farm

Every year we make it a point to hit a different pumpkin patch and corn maze. This year we found a good place called Bose Family Farm and of all the corn mazes we have been through, they take the cake. It took us all of two hours to get through the maze and that was using a map they provided. It was a great time and we had a blast. We also scored some great pumpkins too!

We started seeing the signs to the corn maze about three miles from the farm. Skylar was getting pretty excited to check it out and see how well we would do this year.

Once we made it, we had to first check out the corn maze before anything else.

We were given a map and headed toward the corn maze.  From the look of the map, we knew it was going to take us a little while before we were done.

We all wore rubber boots just in case it was muddy, but we sort of wished we had our tennis shoes instead once we walked around in the maze for over an hour.

We got lost a lot, but made the most of it with a little bit of fun from time to time.

I was so glad it wasn't dark, or I don't think we would have ever made it out.  Ha!

The cute little signs throughout the maze sort of distracted from how long you've actually been in there too.

At one point Skylar thought he would run ahead to check it out and ended up getting lost.  We weren't supposed to cut across the corn, but he was getting a little scared, so we let him.

Throughout the maze they had scarecrows that you had to find and punch a hole in your paper to make sure you hit the check point.  This is what actually took so long.  The corn maze itself isn't all that difficult, but hunting for those scarecrows was a hard task.

We finally found the last scarecrow and headed toward the exit, which took another 30 minutes.  Haha!

After the corn maze we took a ride on the tractor around the farm.

I was so impressed with how large their broccoli had gotten.  Puts my yard garden broccoli to shame.

Skylar love the old tractor that pulled the hay ride.

We then headed into the pumpkin patch and picked out a few pumpkins to take home.

We have been going to the pumpkin patch since Skylar was born.  Every year I sit him in or around a pumpkin in the patch.  For ten years we've been doing this, such a great tradition for our little family.

He has grown into such a great looking, behaving, and well-rounded boy.  Makes me so proud!

Jeff grabbed his final choice and we loaded them up.

We had a great time at Bose Family Farm this year.

We scored a pretty good load of pumpkins.

What a great day!
