Our Garden Currently: Garden beds and solar lights

The Mr. and I have been on a mission to bring a bit of color to the side yard of the house we live in currently. I had a vision of making a large flowerbed in the middle of the yard to break up the grassy knoll a bit. We planted mostly perennials and they have really taken off in a beauty of color.

The side of the house needed something. When we first laid the dirt down and cleaned the area up it screamed flowers to me.  The picture above is the first week they were planted and I was afraid they might not make an appearance this year. The old saying goes, "first year they sleep, second year they creep, and third year they leap."

Still a rough draft on the left-side of the house. This is right down, on the same side of the house, as the perennial flowers from above. Not sure what this space will become and I am almost afraid to put much more effort into it because of the winter months coming soon.

Some wild flower seeds were spilled near the fence line and we saw a few of them peaking through the cracks.

The slow-going flowerbed The Mr. and I put in place. We like how it looks so far, but things will start to show soon. I look a night shot because I liked the way it looked. (Of course, this is the first shot when we started and it looks great so far, but we shall see what it becomes before the summer is done.) -Scroll down for an updated picture of the middle flowerbed now.

Solar lights along the privacy fence. This fence will have more depth as the years go on. I am planning a big layout to bring it all together. It's still in the works, so stay tuned. Best part of the new "layout" is the fact that once it's done we can move it with us to a new location if, and when, we find that perfect home of our own. Fingers crossed that one comes along before too long.

Sending a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to The Mr.!

Our garden currently: Spring cleanup

We have been on constant cleanup mode here where we live at the Hiatt House. It seems everything needed a little TLC from this past season of horrible weather. The trees in the side and back yards sure took a beating and the side yard tree needed to be replanted again and cut back a lot from the dead branches.

We have decided to find a use for the all of the bricks we have now. If you remember, we helped a neighbor tear down an old fireplace and for our work he gave us $200 and all of the bricks. I've been leaning more toward a flowerbed in the side yard to break up the yard a little bit, but I am not sure what I want yet. More on this later.

Our gardening area is a mess. Last winter wrecked havoc on our area with snow, wind, and loads of rain, so we are in the process of cleaning everything up and I can't wait to get started.

We have a lot of plans in store, so stay tuned to see what we are doing with our backyard and side yard soon!

The beauty of the Hawthorne Tree

Every year the Hawthorne Trees seem to just bring out the best in the pinks and reds for spring.  We have three trees in our front yard at the Hiatt House and they are on full display right now.

I'm just falling in love with our front yard, year after year here.  With the vintage school bell and the plants that are coming in nicely.  It looks amazing each spring!

What happened this time last year?

Cherry blossoms mean spring is here

Do you see the Mourning Dove?

We are looking forward to a welcome spring here in the Willamette Valley.  When the cherry blossom shows its white we know that spring is coming here.  The above image with the Frank Lloyd Wright quote is available to download and spring in the clip art shop here.

The splendor of Oregon right in my own backyard

Oregon is a beautiful state full of hidden sights that some don't even know about.  After living here for the past nine years, here are a few of my favorite sights that I just can't get enough of and will miss greatly when I move back to Arkansas.  But then again, Arkansas holds its own sights worth bragging about too.
